실천하지 않는 사람의 번지르르한 말은

귀엽고 아름다우나 향기 없는 꽃과 다르지 않아

아무런 결실도 거두지 못하리.

A flower that is lovely and beautiful but is scentless,

even so fruitless is the well-spoken word of one who does not practice it.

如可意華色好無香工語如是不行無得 .(51)

그대 자신의 잘못을 찾아라 / Seek not others' faults but your own

다른 사람들의 잘못을 찾지 말고

다른 사람들이 했거나 하지 못한 일들을 찾지 말라.

자신이 한 일과 미처 하지 못한 일들을

잘 살펴보아야 하리.

One should not pry into the faults of others,

into things done and left undone by others.

One should rather consider what by oneself is done and left undone.

不務觀彼作與不作常自省身不行無得 .(50)

꽃과 그 색깔이나 향기를 해치지 않고

꿀만 모아 날아가 버리는 꿀벌처럼

성인도 그와 같이

(사람들의 신념과 아량이나 부(富)에 영향을 미치지 않고)

마을을 걸어다녀야 하네.

As a bee without harming the flower, its color or scent,

flies away, collecting only the honey,

even so should the sage wander in the village

(without affecting the faith and generosity or wealth of the villagers).

如蜂集華不嬈色香但取味去仁人聚然 .(49)
