Though one should live a hundred years,

immoral and uncontrolled, yet better, indeed,

is a single day's life of one who is moral and meditative.

若人壽百歲遠正不持戒不如生一日守戒正意禪.

100년을 산다고 하더라도

비도덕적이고 제어되지 않은 것이라면,

도덕적이고 성찰하는 단 하루의 삶이 더 나으리니. (110)

자기 자신을 정복한 사람이

Better than a thousand utterances,

comprising useless words, is one single beneficial utterance

by hearing which one is calmed.

雖誦千言句義不正不如一要聞可滅意.

쓸모 없는 말로 이루어진 천 마디보다는

듣고 나면 고요해지는

유익한 단 한 마디가 더 나으리. (100)
